Gerard Darwin

Gerard Darwin was born in Lancashire, England, in 1928. He first became interested in sculpture in the early fifties when training as an art teacher in London. For the next 30 years, whilst following a career in education, he practised sculpture in his spare time. Shortly after arriving in Australia in 1977, he left teaching and took up sculpture as a profession, both as a portrait sculptor and as a sculptor of religious images. His religious works, most of them life-size, are located in churches, convents, hospitals and schools throughout Australia and in many other countries. Darwin is a well-travelled man, having lived in England, Kenya, and Swaziland. Consequently, his works have been exhibited and acquired in all these countries as well as in Australia.
