Donna Beningfield

Donna is a practising artist, specialising in painting with a Diploma of Visual Arts where she undertook a number of modules in the area of painting, drawing, illustration and printmaking.

She began painting in 2003 and since graduating has held three solo exhibitions and has participated in many group exhibitions and Community Art projects in the Townsville area. She has been teaching for over twenty years and presently teaches Children’s Art classes at the Townsville Art Society, specialising in drawing and painting.

Donna says about her work: “My work is influenced by certain artists of the past particularly Munch, Rembrandt, Renoir and the work of fellow Australian artists such as Rick Amor, Judy Cassab and Euan Macleod. I empathize with their treatment of the subject and the themes of isolation, loneliness and the struggle to understand the human predicament that is implicit in their work. I have a deep fascination in how people project themselves to the world and the layers of complexity that underlie this image. As a human species we are intrinsically connected through our personal experiences and share a deep understanding of our individual plights. My works often investigate social issues that are topical or form the fabric of our society, in an attempt to understand trends in behaviour and our motivation to act the way we do.”
